Here it is, the last blog assignment.

This one is quite easy and I want you to be honest about it. Don’t sugar coat it for me. But I want you to answer these questions below. You can post your responses to this post or you can hand them in on a piece of paper if you don’t want your comments to be public.

What do you think of the blog assignments this year:

Small Basic Assignment 4 –
More arrays and such.

 

1. Random Numbers – Array

Write a program that creates 10 random numbers between 1 and 100 in an array named “num”.  Use a for loop to create the random numbers, then a second for loop to print the numbers.  Save as RandomArray.

2. Hi-Lo Guesses – Array 
Write a “hi-lo” guessing game where the user has to guess a random number between 1 and 100. Store the guesses in an array named “guess”.  Print the guesses after the user has guessed the correct number. Save as HighLowGuesses.

 

3. Prime Array – Array
Write a program that determines all prime numbers below 1000 and stores them in an array named “prime”. After the prime numbers have been determined, prompt for a number between 1 and n, where n is the number of prime numbers found. Use the array to print the nth prime number. Save as PrimeArray.

 

4. Backwards Name – Array
Write a program that prompts for 5 letters and stores each letter in an array named “letter”. Use the array to print the letters backwards using a for loop. Save as Backwards.

5. Rainfall – Array 
Create an array named “month” and initialize the elements with “Jan”, “Feb”, etc. to “Dec”. Use a for loop to prompt for the monthly rainfall for each of the months, then use a second for loop to print a report of the monthly rainfall. If a month’s rainfall is in the top 3 rainfall months, append a short “bring an umbrella” note beside the month. Below this report, print the month with the least rainfall (with the amount), the month with the most rainfall (with the amount), the average rainfall, and the total (annual) rainfall. Save as Rainfall.

 

6. Second Largest Number – DO NOT USE BUBBLE SORT
Create an array of random numbers. Have the program go through the array list and find the second largest number. The output should be the array and the second largest number in that array. Do not sort the array.

Example output:

 The array is: 12, 82, 16, 46, 9

The second largest number is: 46

1) I think kids that play violent video games are nt desesitized because violent video games are nothing compared to real life.

2) I think video violence and youth crime is not linked because youth crime is big time realistic and video games are just fun things to play. The factors contributed to this problem is that some parents bully their kids and kids at school get bullied.

3) I agree with the Dawson Creek to refuse to sell underage kids violent video games because kids are deffinatly not mature enough to play them and it teaches them bad things for kids under 14.

4) The video game industry targets its groups in its ads and games by making games with violence. Also, they make more games with more violence and more action to get the young customers to buy more games. In addition manufacturers makes the games more realistic, closer to the real-life experience of killing. They make them fun by making conflict in the games.

5) I agree with the statement “you need conflict for a game to succeed, and without that tension the games just aren’t very fun” because of their weapons, and because its a challenge to have a fight. Tetris is a non-violent game because your only building blocks. The challenge is with my brain.

6) One of the best solutions to the problem of video violence is to not make it realistic. Also, they can put the non-violent games in front for kids to see and put the violent games stored somewhere else so only the 18-year-olds and up can see it.

Small Basic Work Using the Clock

 

1.  Create a program that will ask the user for the month of their birth in numerical form. The program will then transform that number into the word for that month. IE 1 = January.   You should output the new word month on the screen for the user. Example output could be: “You entered 1 for the month, that is translated into January”

2.  I want you to create an alarm clock that will display a picture of a happy face at a specific time.
For example if the time equals 12:01 then a happy face should appear. If it is not 12:01 then nothing should happen. The clock should continuously move forward and not be a static image on the screen.

We are going to discuss the environmental concerns with computers over the next few weeks online. This will help to combat the over use of paper in school and help direct our focus on this issue.

First off I would like you to do some research on the topic. Find some links to
e-waste related sites and ideas for recycling them and post them as a reply to this post. About three links is good. Do not repeat them!!! IE If some else posts a link, do not repost it!!!

Second, answer these questions. Post your answers on your blog.

1. How many electronic devices do you use everyday?
2. What do you do with old devices when you are done with them?
3. Have you ever purchased used electronic devices or do you always buy new ones?
4. What is e-waste?
5. What are some ideas in how we can stop e-waste?

For the following questions you need to read over the paragraph and construct the profile. These can be looked up online from the different companies.

E-Waste can be incredibly harmful to the environment, but can also be extremely profitable to recycle.  You will be researching a number of different e-waste initiatives at various levels from local to international.  For each level, you will choose one program and write a profile for it.  A profile should include basic information, such as what types of e-waste they accept (if they are actively collecting), what their policies are, what their mandate is, and what they actually do with any e-waste they collect.  If your organization is not a direct collector of e-waste, then make sure you include some examples of their activities and how they benefit the drive for the reduction, reuse, and recycling of e-waste.

6. Write a profile on an e-waste recycler in your area.  This can be either an actual recycling company, or a local group’s or business’ e-waste initiative. (GECDSB, Staples, Best Buy, Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority, etc.)
7. Write a profile on a provincial level (Ontario or otherwise) e-waste program.
8. Write a profile on a national (Canada Wide) e-waste related program or initiative.
9. Write a profile on a multi-national computer corporation’s e-waste collection program. (i.e. Sony, Dell, etc.)
